Buying Antique Persian Rugs

In an earlier hub I talked about casting my investment eye towards buying antique Persian rugs. I listed several features that you should be aware of when looking out for Persian rugs to invest in.

One thing I didn't mention was that when it comes to investing in Persian rugs your mindset has to be slightly different from investing in something like property investing. When buying investment property it is a very good idea not to fall in love with a house because this leaves you open to paying too much for a deal.

However when buying antique Persian rugs the mentality is almost the opposite. Firstly you have to commit money to the purchase that is risk money, money that you can afford to lose, or at the very least, money that you may not get a return on for several years. If you go in with this mentality then the second point is that you should buy something that you love because it could be adorning your floor, or preferably your wall, for many years to come. You should still keep in mind the features that you need to be aware of to ensure that you do buy a genuine antique Persian rug to give yourself the best possible chance to get a return on your investment.

Now might be a good time to invest in antique Persian rugs. Obviously the current recession means that people's discretionary dollars are limited which means there are less investors in the in the Persian rug market. Less competition equals less pressure on prices so it is possible to pick up a bargain.

However this is not the only advantage. According to the Nazmiyal Collection House due to the trading embargos imposed by the US government and her allies on Iran. This will have some impact on the availabilty of antique Persian rugs in the western world markets.

In conclusion, I recommended in a previous hub that you purchase antique Persian rugs using qualified agents like Nazmiyal mentioned above. If you do want to give it a go by yourself then make sure you do the necessary research to give yourself the best possible chance to buy your own genuine antique Persian rug.
